Carnal Whispers: Mind Staker
To delve into another’s mind is to revel in the depths of truth, cringe in the face of past and imagined horrors, and suffer their dreams, all while searching for balance and serenity.
Daniele is a mysterious, gentle, and loyal young woman harboring knowledge capable of destroying millions. Thumbing her nose at fate, she hides in plain sight while concealing her extraordinary talent, enduring isolation despite her fantasies of a normal life.
Marc, owner of the BDSM club, Ambrosia, is determined to protect the elusive beauty stalked by a psychopathic killer. Hidden underneath her vulnerability, he senses a courage and determination forged from horrific circumstances. While adapting unique scenes to free her from fear and low self-esteem, he strives to stay one step ahead of a branch of the government answering to no one.
Each must rely on the other to survive a world where betrayal and deception, desire and trust, weave a fabric that threatens their sanity.
This story kept me on edge the whole time I was reading it.
I appreciate a good suspense every now and then. This one threw in the paranormal and the BDSM vibe as well. Not a combo I normally would think could be done, but for some reason, it worked. It was a little confusing for me in the beginning, since I did not read the previous books in the series. For some reason they are not labeled as a series per se, but honestly to really understand what is going on, Carnal Innocence might have to be read first. However, one could get over that fact and pick up the pieces as the story progresses.
On to the paranormal….
Dani can read minds. Her ability makes her a target and an asset to the several antagonists introduced throughout the story. It’s this ability that truly makes her vulnerable and her fight or flight instincts definitely tell her to flee on numerous occasions. So, she’s not a fighter in the strict sense, but she still has some bravery in rebelling against her opposition.
Bring on the BDSM…
Enter Marc, a dom and owner of a BDSM club. Friends to the military and to dogs alike as well. He sets his sights on Dani from the beginning and their romance starts at the Veterinarian that Calli works for. His protective instincts are on full swing and he believes BDSM will set Dani free and learn to trust again. Boy howdy, he wasn’t aggressive, but I’m glad she was consensual to the whole thing. She wanted and needed him to teach her those lessons.
Bring on the suspense and danger…
Probably my favorite aspect to the story. The characters constant need to be on the lookout, the secondary characters forming a pact and sticking together for protection. The antagonists were perfectly evil in every way and the hunt felt very real.
Overall, it was interesting take on several genres.
Pet peeve: The cover. Why is she blonde? Dani has black hair. *sigh*
