First, Vanessa Kelly brought readers The Renegade Royals. Now, in a delightfully witty new series, she introduces The Improper Princesses—three young women descended from royalty, each bound for her own thrilling adventure . . .

Despite being the illegitimate daughter of a prince, Gillian Dryden is happily ignorant of all social graces. After growing up wild in Italy, Gillian has been ordered home to England to find a suitable husband. And Charles Valentine Penley, the excessively proper, distractingly handsome Duke of Leverton, has agreed to help transform her from a willful tomboy to a blushing debutante.

Powerful and sophisticated, Charles can make or break reputations with a well-placed word. But his new protégée, with her habit of hunting bandits and punching earls, is a walking scandal. The ton is aghast . . . but Charles is thoroughly intrigued. Tasked with taking the hoyden in hand, he longs to take her in his arms instead. Can such an outrageous attraction possibly lead to a fairytale ending?

Kick ass alpha heroine inside!
This was such a fun read.
From page one I was hooked and Gillian was my hero..ine! It had been awhile since I read a story with such a strong female character, that I forgot what some of their qualities were. Just take any romance hero and turn him into a girl. That’s Gillian for you. Granted, she spoke like a sailor and acted way too impulsively. As the story title suggests, this was a nod to “My Fair Lady”. Professor Higgins is played by Perfect Penley and he was put upon by his family to make Gillian act like a lady. Even though those parts were amusing, the smuggling aspect made it fun.

There might have been too much going on at times.
With the action from the beginning, to the Letitia antagonist, and then to the smuggling. I felt at times that I was plucked from one story and placed in another. I thought I would have had some closure with Letitia, but alas that did not come. The characters were conveniently moved to the country and smuggling comes into play.

Now don’t get me wrong…
I enjoyed this story and the characters in it. Gillian and Penley’s attraction was sizzling and sexy. It turns out that Penley might need Gillian’s brash ways after all…

The storyline did get a little slow in some parts and Gillian might have been a tad annoying at times, but overall this book did keep me on my toes. Not a bad way to start the series.

A certain Mr. Steele makes an appearance in this story. I loved him from Confessions of a Royal Bridegroom. It was nice “seeing” him again.
