I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The Cajun Doctor
Dr. Daniel LeDeux and pilot Aaron LeDeux travel to the swampy bayous of Louisiana, where they discover a long-lost family. The usually stoic Daniel, a burned-out pediatric oncologist, is especially startled by the interfering LeDeux matriarch, Tante Lulu, bless her crazy heart, who wastes no time in setting him up with local rich girl Samantha Starr.
Scarred by a nasty divorce from a philandering New Orleans physician, Samantha has sworn off men, especially doctors. When Samantha’s step-brother gets into serious trouble, she must ask Daniel for help. But Samantha faces even more trouble when the handsome doctor casts his smoldering Cajun eyes her way.
The steamy heat of the bayou, along with the wacky matchmaking efforts of Tante Lulu, a herd of animal rescue rejects, including a depressed pot belly pig, and some world-class sexual fantasies create enough heat and humor to make both Daniel and Samantha realize that love and laughter can mend even the most broken heart.
Be still my heart! The Cajun Doctor has stolen it and has made me a new fan of author Sandra Hill.
I mean seriously, the cover alone is swoon-worthy, but I never thought I would be that hooked on a story that gave me the feels, made me laugh out loud, and wish for a crazy aunt like Tante Lulu. Okay well, It’s hard not to be hooked on a story like this. It comes complete with characters who need growth, a sleazy ex-husband with questionable morals, and food. I admit, this is the first book that I’ve read in the Cajun series (this is #10!) but if they’re all like this, then I need to read them all!
Hot inner monologue
Daniel finds himself related to this massive family called the LeDeux’s from Louisiana. Him and his twin (very hot sounding) brother go down there to find their roots. There they meet the crazy Cajun lady Tante Lulu, with her inappropriate clothes (more power to her btw) and her even crazier sayings and nosiness/matchmaking schemes. I love her. She’s my favorite character. But my topic is the hot inner monologue of hot Cajun Daniel.
“Maybe I should take another rainforest shower. A cold one.
Or maybe I should invite her to join me. And not so cold.
No, no, no!
Down, libido, down!”
Trust me when I say there is a lot more of these gems in the book.
I loved the dynamic between Samantha and Daniel. Their supposed animosity toward each other at first and the slow sexy build up of their relationship makes it the perfect enemies to lovers story. Let me be clear: they’re not out right enemies but they certainly do not like each other. That changes of course. Add to that mix a funny bird that says “Holy shit!” all the time and a love sick pig and really, I could not love this book enough.
Since I mentioned that it’s the first book in the series that I read, I really did not feel out of place. I quickly learned the family dynamic of the other LeDeux’s and although they make appearances, this was clearly Samantha and Daniel’s story. So, you can totally read this series out of order IMHO.
Thanks to Avon Romance for giving away a copy of the Cajun Doctor. Open to US/CA only.
