Comparing Covers #20: Star of the Morning

by Aleen @ Lampshade Reader

Welcome to Comparing Covers where I will showcase a book title that has multiple covers; from first editions, re-releases, and international releases.

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a Lynn Kurland story. My mom is a huge fan and she has all of her books, so I can always raid her shelves at my leisure. I picked Star of the Morning simply because the color change totally made a difference between the two English versions. The Spanish version has it’s own uniqueness. So I’m eager to know your opinions and which one you pick.

As for me, I think I like the darker version because it gives a more moody feel to the cover. Also it goes with the premise of the story as well. Check out the blurb below.

Darkness covers the north, since the black mage has begun his assault on the kingdom of Neroche. Legend has it that only the two magical swords held by Neroche’s king can defeat the mage. Now the fate of the Nine Kingdoms rests in the hands of a woman destined to wield one of those blades…

In this land of dragons and mages, warrior maids and magical swords, nothing is as it seems. And Morgan will find that the magic in her blood brings her troubles she cannot face with a sword-and a love more powerful than she has ever imagined.

I could not find a lot of covers to this one but I think there’s still something to compare. 🙂

Interesting doing the same cover with light vs dark. I prefer the lighter one I think.

Wow, I think this is the first time I’ve actually liked all the options. The light US version is pretty but I keep going back to the Spanish version. I really like that cover.

I picked the dark one because I just like the feel of it like there’s a dark storm brewing and it gives that spooky feel that I like to it.

What a difference the tone made between light and dark!

Oh wow – just the color tone changed the entire tone from dark to hopeful. I don’t like the Spanish cover but I have a hard time choosing between the other two. I guess I would have to read the book and see which fits the story better.

This is a tough one. I like the light cover because I’m able to see all the detail in it and my eyes roam over the whole thing taking it all in. However, the dark one definitely sounds like it fits the story better. The only problem is, every time I look at my eyes just sort of zone out on my and move past it. Maybe if they lightened it up but added more shadowing or something to make the cover pop without it being all dark and drab?
