Sunday Post #54: Is This Year Over Yet?

by Aleen @ Lampshade Reader

Welcome back to the Sunday Post! Sit back, kick up your feet, and relax!

sunday-post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

As the title of my Sunday Post suggests, this year has been one of the worst for me. I try not to dwell on things such as this, but it’s one thing after another. My Father in Law is in the hospital with pneumonia, he’s in his 80s. On top of that he’s on dialysis and he’s just not feeling well. The doctors say he has some kind of secondary infection because his white blood cells are not going down with the antibiotic treatment. I’m just so worried for him. His health problems have been accumulating steadily throughout the years and it just seems like it’s getting worse. So with this going on, my heart has not been in the blogging mood. I feel so down that I haven’t even decorated for the holidays. And that’s a big deal for me.

I’ll try and cheer myself up, so I’m not completely forsaking my blog or not visiting you all. 🙂 I have bought myself some treats to help me get into the spirit of the holidays. I’ll share the first one with you below.

Interestingly, the author who wrote this series is directly descendant from one of the perpetrators in the Salem witchcraft trials and related to a family who survived the sinking of the Titanic, which plays a big part in her fictional story.

Current Listens

I had such fun with the Holiday box from last year from Ever After Box, that I decided to treat myself to one this year. This is my un-boxing of it, including the day 1 satchel. Each day you can open a satchel (it’s labeled to help you) and on the 25th you can unwrap an extra special gift. I’ll be sharing my gifts every day on Instagram.

I decided to get a head start on review copies for next year and I scooped up some interesting titles. Thanks to Edeleweiss and NetGalley.

Oh damn. It’s awful when anyone is feeling poorly and in the hospital but seems even worse this time of year. Hope everyone gets to feeling better and mended soon.

I am so sorry to hear about your father in law’s heath problems. I hope he pulls through stronger than ever. It looks like you did grab some great books this week. I hope you enjoy them all and have a wonderful week!

Sorry to hear about your father-in-law. ((HUGS)) I am a fan of the How to Hang a Witch series, and I was really impressed with how Mather worked the Titanic into that world. TID is still my favorite Shadowhunter series, and the last book — all the tears. I am so excited to read Surprise Me. I love Kinsella. Take care of yourself this week.

Sorry this year has been tough. Hopefully 2018 will be your year! Your book haul looks good! I grabbed that Tess Diamond book as well.

Best wishes for your father-in-law! Sounds like he’s going through a very tough time- sending good thoughts for a full recovery. Hang in there.

Wow that’s quite the cover on Haunting the Deep!

I am so sorry and will keep your father-in-law in my prayers as well as your family. My tree is not yet up, but the house is decorated. The Royals parents are separated and filing for divorce. It has left me utterly crushed and a complete mess. I have the Shupe book too, I loved book one and cannot wait to dive in. Hang in there my friend and let us hope 2018 brings good news.

Sending good thoughts for your father in law and your family. I love a little bookish therapy when I need a mood lifter – it’s the little things that make such a difference. I ran to the library twice in two days for this reason alone. I’ve got lots and lots of work hours in my future so figured I would treat myself with a stack of great reads. I hope you have a great week – happy reading!

So sorry to hear about your father-in-law’a health, Aleen. I hope they manage to get the infection under control and clear up the pneumonia. It’s scary when someone is sick at that age. Hope you’re enjoying Clockwork Angel. I read the trilogy years ago and really enjoyed it. The epilogue at the end of the third book is simply the Best. Epilogue. Ever.
