Comparing Covers #33: Gilded Cage by Vic James

by Aleen @ Lampshade Reader

Welcome to Comparing Covers where I showcase a book title that has multiple covers; from first editions, re-releases, and international releases.

I’ve read and reviewed Gilded Cage a while ago (I can’t believe it’s been 2 years!) and when I found out that book 2 was already out, I wanted to re-feature this. (BTW, I’m hoping that the publisher grants my wish on NetGalley to review Tarnished City).

In a darkly fantastical debut set in modern-day Britain, magic users control everything: wealth, politics, power—and you. If you’re not one of the ultimate one-percenters—the magical elite—you owe them ten years of service. Do those years when you’re old, and you’ll never get through them. Do them young, and you’ll never get over them.

This is the darkly decadent world of Gilded Cage. In its glittering milieu move the all-powerful Jardines and the everyday Hadleys. The families have only one thing in common: Each has three children. But their destinies entwine when one family enters the service of the other. They will all discover whether any magic is more powerful than the human spirit.

Have a quick ten years. . . .

Gilded Cage’s US book covers have 2 styles. One for the hardcover and one is for the paperback. While both are equally interesting, I think my favorite is the paperback edition. After seeing the cover for book 2, I like the overall theme of it better.

Look forward to what you think!

I had no idea that the second book was available, I’m so behind knowing about new releases. I would have liked to see the US HB edition of book 2 looking similar to book 1.

The paperback edition (US version) looks good.

The paperback edition looks good.

For some reason it’s the US hardcover that catches my eye. It’s one that would have me picking up the book to check it out. Hope you get approved for book two!!

The Hardcover looks good too, but I am going for the Paperback hehe

Grace @ Rebel Mommy Book Blog

That paperback edition stands out to me!

Oh, man. Both of the US covers are fabulous. The hard cover just eeked out as the better of the two for me! 🙂

Kristen @ Metaphors and Moonlight

I LOVE the US paperback edition for books in the series! Hands down my fave. It makes me kind of want to read the books even though I’m a bit on the fence about the blurbs lol.
