Comparing Covers #37: Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Special Editions

by Aleen @ Lampshade Reader

Welcome to Comparing Covers where I showcase a book title that has multiple covers; from first editions, re-releases, and international releases.

The nice thing about established and popular book series are the many different editions that come out. Especially anniversary editions.

Today, I’m showcasing the awesome 20th anniversary Harry Potter editions with new illustrations by Caldecott Medalist Brian Selznick. Also, the new house editions of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone are awesome. I plan on buying myself a Gryffindor one, because, that’s my house according to Pottermore. 🙂 (BTW-I took that quiz 3 times and still ended up in Gryffindor).

So, a little fun tidbit, as I was arranging the new illustrated editions of the covers in Photoshop, I found out that it makes a whole new image! It’s a cool little secret that I was so excited to find out about.

So vote for your favorite edition below!

I hope it’s OK to vote even if I’ve never read Harry Potter…

I love the House editions. Something about them makes me want to put them on the shelf pages out – and I have never had that desire before!

I love the way the covers all combine into one image! I feel like they’d be prettier with a bit of color in the images though. This was such a hard decision though since the artwork is gorgeous, but the house editions are so bold and you get to have house pride! So I choose the house editions.

It kind of boggles my mind how many different editions there are of the HP series now. I have visions of the publisher’s marketing department gathering daily to brainstorm new ways to package and market new editions. LOL Out of the two shown, I like the house version best.

I love the movies but I’ve never read the books.

While I love all things Potter, if I had to choose I’d go with the House collection.

I really like them both pretty equally even though they are completely different. The colors are great but I like the layout of the series.

I love both!!! But the House editions just have really pretty colors! Thought They are only available in the first book so its kind of hard to compare a single book to a series
