It Happened on the Blog-May 2019

This month I feel like nothing happened. I’ve been on a blogging slump lately, but thankfully not a reading one.

Stand Out Reads

Lady Mechanika is always a favorite for me. Murder Knocks Twice by Susanna Calkins was an ARC, but boy did I love it.

Books Read But Not Reviewed Yet

This month I read 4 books (Not much, I know). Two of them were audiobooks. There was one book that I had to DNF.

may 2019 read books

  • How the White Trash Zombie Got Her Groove Back by Diana Rowland- Audiobook. Angel never disappoints. Neither does the narrator Allison McLemore.
  • A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas– Audiobook. This one took some getting used to with its slow start, but when in picked up I really enjoyed it.
  • The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss- Print. I love love loved this. So much in fact, that I immediately bought book two (and gasped at the mere thickness of it too, it’s like double the length of book 1).
  • Dark Witch by Nora Roberts– Print. I had this one sitting on my shelves for a long time. Not bad but not my favorite.

Look for the reviews in June.

Book I DNF’d

the illusionists

I did not like the protagonist and the writing style was not my cup of tea. It was hard to get through and so slow. It’s unfortunate because I really thought the premise was interesting.

Video Game Reviews

None. But can you believe, I’m still playing Dragon Quest XI? It’s a massive game. If you’re a gamer on Steam, feel free to friend me @ LSR Gamer.

Personal Update

Not much going on personally, just every day routines. Work, rest, repeat. We did have a bird family set up a nest right above our front door. It was the cutest thing. By the time I wanted to to take a picture the chicks flew the coop! How fast they grow up. *sniff* LOL. The weather is super humid already and we’ve had a lot of rain. Since we have a large pond on our property a little spill over happens, and snakes are pretty common. And yes, we have poisonous ones… But on a positive note, we also have a lot of turtles, bass, catfish, and sun fish. We feed them every day and we consider them pets because as soon as we walk up to the pond they all gather around and wait for their feeding. It’s the cutest thing.

Book Haul

  • Live to Fly Another Day by Eliza Watson– The author was kind enough to send me a signed review copy along with a sweet card. I love this series and look forward to reading it.
  • European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman by Theodora Goss-Didn’t I tell you it was thick?
  • Aurora Rising by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman– I jumped on the hype train with this one. But I was always looking for a Sci-fi YA read, so there ya go.

Goals for June

  1. Um yeah, more book reviews. Sheesh…again.
  2. I have a ton of back logged video games that I need to write reviews for. (Yep still a dang goal)
  3. More Shady Talk, as always.
  4. A couple of giveaways. For one thing, Jun is my birthday month, so I might do something.

I’m a week late commenting, oops lol. I really want to read or listen to the White Trash Zombie books! That’s too bad about the book you had to DNF. Aww sorry you didn’t get a pic of the birds, but that’s so cute about the fish and turtles!

Happy Birthday month. I really want to read The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter so I’m glad to hear you loved it. I need to really get posts written/scheduled on the blog because I feel like I’m always behind and summer doesn’t help with that since I’m busy a lot.

Lady Mechanika looks awesome, and so does Murder Knocks Twice. I love the retro feel of that cover.

That’s pretty cool how the critters gather around for food. 🙂

Love the cover to Lady Mechanika. I’ve heard a lot about the White Trash Zombie books. I need to check them out! It’s cool how you had birds nest at your house 🙂

May has been a sparse month reading for me. Since my family moved, it’s been crazy. I do plan to read more this month now that I’m on summer vacay!

I read Dark Witch when it first came out and didn’t love it. Too many things didn’t make sense and the way the main character accepted everything so easily just strained believability to me. I never continued the series. Sad because I usually enjoy Nora Roberts.

Hopefully your blogging slump ends soon. I’m in one of those, too, because work has been so busy. I hope you have a great June!
