Comparing Covers #41: The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

by Aleen @ Lampshade Reader

Welcome to Comparing Covers where I showcase a book title that has multiple covers; from first editions, re-releases, and international releases.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black is one of those novels that has gained a lot of popularity and fan base. I’ve totally missed the band wagon on this “universe”. However, since I’ve started reading more YA, I’ve become more attuned to the books in the genre. Also, since I’m an OwlCrate junkie, I wanted to buy the special edition box for book #3, The Queen of Nothing. The goodies alone made me want to buy it. So, alas, here I am, wanting to pick this series up and start reading, because now I have to!

Naturally, since this is a Comparing Covers feature, I’ve picked out a few covers of The Cruel Prince, including the OwlCrate exclusive edition. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on them!

Jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.

As Jude becomes more deeply embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, she discovers her own capacity for trickery and bloodshed. But as betrayal threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

I actually like the B&N exclusive one.  Does anyone have that edition?

Now see I am with Greg, but it looks like most favor the B&N cover.

I like the first cover the best, although the B&N one is nice- I like the black background a lot!

I like the Owlcrate exclusive cover the best.

This is one of the few times I think all the covers are pretty good, but I love the B&N cover. The crown and branches just pop on that black background

The Barnes and Noble one is my favorite too! And its the one that I own 😀

This book missed the mark for me. And I’ve ‘been reading’ The Wicked King since it came out. I think it’s time to call it a day on that one. LOL

That Owlcrate cover, on the other hand, knocked it out of the park!

I love these posts. 🙂

I’ve never been a big fantasy reader but the synopsis of The Cruel Prince grabbed me. I was so glad I gave it a try because I loved it… and The Wicked King. I’ve always been partial to the B&N special edition cover. The black and gold is so striking!

I have an ARC of this book that I still need to read. I got it from a bookstore instead of a publisher so at least I am not late with a review 🙂 This book sounds great an I do love the cover. I think I like the original the best but the B&N cover is a close second.
