It Happened on the Blog-October 2019

I can’t believe it’s November already! I find myself saying that phrase a lot lately, just replace the month with a different one.

None! *gasp!* What the heck happened? I read a lot this month, but didn’t really post my reviews here. Lately, I’ve been feeling pressured to write reviews for every single book read and that’s kind of draining. Instead, I want to create posts that are more unique and list type, rather than the traditional review style. I will post some reviews, if they feel rave worthy and my reviews will also be on Goodreads as well.

This method might help me be a better blogger as well. I can still talk about books, but in a different way that’s not formal.

Stand Out Reads

I went all spooky this month and while I listened to a few audiobooks as well, the print books that really stood out were Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco and The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. HPD was awesome and was a lot better than the first book in the series. THOHH is a classic, but super strange and creepy.

Total Books Read

7 books. Must be my lucky number because that’s also how many I read last month. This month’s reads made me reach my Goodreads goal of 50 books! Every thing else is just extra at this point. 🙂

I got I Hope You Get This Message by Farah Naz Rishi and Crier’s War by Nina Varela in October’s Owlcrate box. The Hollow of Fear by Sherry Thomas and The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapowski in audiobook format. I love they Lady Sherlock series so that was a given for me, and I’ve played The Witcher video game, so I’m looking forward to the new Netflix series. I want to get into the books as well.

Personal Update

Toodles has reached 7lbs! However, I don’t think she’s going to be a big kitty. She’s very petite. Not sure if it’s because she was malnourished when we found her or because of her genetics, but she’s the smallest kitty we’ve had. We got her spayed and had a little scare with her lab work. The vet threw around the diagnosis of FIP, which was devastating after we looked it up. It basically said that she wouldn’t live long after such a diagnosis. For info about it check out the WebMD info: Cat FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis)Naturally, we wanted to speak to someone about it and had them run a new lab with an expanded blood profile. Ya’ll the relief that we felt after the clean bill of health was amazing. They don’t really know what causes such inconsistencies with the results, but they’re chalking it up to cat nerves.

Goals for November

  • Continue my list type/articles approach to blogging.
  • Throw in some traditional reviews.

I often get burned out on reviews… or simply don’t have a lot to say. I finally got over feeling like I had to review every single book I read. (I wonder when I put that restriction on myself? And why?? LOL) I hope November is off to a good start for you!

I’m glad Toodles doesn’t have FIP!!! She is so cute and precious <3 I am super behind on my reviews too 🙁 I hate leaving books unreviewd though, so I may just do a bunch of mini reviews! That was I can still get them done, but won't feel as much pressure as writing a whole post.

Hunting Prince Dracula sounds pretty awesome, actually. I wish I would have gotten to more spooky reads in October. I may have to get that series.

What a cute kitty! Glad she’s doing okay- she’s a cutie. 🙂

Oh, I hear you on the challenges of reviewing. I’ve had a hard time making myself write reviews for a while now. I look at my older reviews, and they are more thoughtful, more perceptive, and much more eloquent than anything I’ve written recently. Maybe I am just burnt out.

Your kitten is adorable, and I’m so glad that she got a clean bill of health the second time around. FIP is a horrible disease; I lost my first cat to it back when I was in college. I’m glad your Toodles won’t have to go through that.

Aw, I’m so glad your cat is okay and doing well!! What a cutie. I haven’t posted too many book reviews lately either – I like the idea of switching up how you talk about books/review them. I want to try and do that more – keep it interesting. haha

Congratulations on completing your Goodreads challenge. Awesome job! If I wrote full-on reviews for every book I read, I would be exhausted too. I write short takes for books I am not featuring on the blog. It gives me some room to breathe.

Glad kitty got a clean bill of health. Sometimes it’s good to change blog things up. I’ve changed a lot over the years.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

Congrats on reaching your Goodreads goal! I hit mine in October too. I’m glad your kitty is okay. She’s very cute. I hope you have a great November!
