Escaping From Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco
Kerri Maniscalco has quickly become one of those authors whose books I instabuy. Really, I don’t care what the book is about, I’m signed up! Escaping From Houdini brought the chills, and for those who love isolation type mysteries, this is the one for you!
Set on the ship The RMS Etruria, Audrey Rose finds herself embroiled in yet another murder mystery with her partner Thomas Cresswell. After that memorable first death at a dinner/performance, Audrey is pulled into the world of a carnival and right into the sleight of hand and word loving exotic ringmaster, Mephistopheles. Much to Thomas’s chagrin.
A love triangle of sorts happens here, and while Mephisto is alluring, I’m a team Thomas girl any day!
“It’s adorable when your nostrils flare so dramatically. There”-he grinned, dodging my swift kick under the table-“that’s the look. One day I’m going to have it captured by a grand portrait artist and hang it above the mantle in my study.”
I was hoping for more Houdini action in this book, so was a little disappointed in that, but overall, the play on the Tarot cards and carnival tricks was fun to read. I loved that Audrey’s cousin Liza was in this one too, rather than just have her as a person off screen, so to say.
“Which will you lose before the week is through? Your heart? Your head? Perhaps you, too, will lose your life, your very soul.”
*I do recommend reading this series from the beginning, just to see Audrey’s and Thomas’s relationship grow. And they really do have the cutest relationship. THE BANTER ya’ll–that. is. all.
*Note: If you’re going to buy this book, make sure it comes with the bonus content. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED*

Escaping From Houdini
The #1 bestselling series that started with Stalking Jack the Ripper and Hunting Prince Dracula continues its streak in this third bloody installment . . . Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell find themselves aboard a luxurious ocean liner that becomes a floating prison of horror when passengers are murdered one by one, with nowhere to run from the killer. Embarking on a week-long voyage across the Atlantic on the opulent RMS Etruria , Audrey Rose Wadsworth and her partner-in-crime-investigation, Thomas Cresswell, are delighted to discover a traveling troupe of circus performers, fortune tellers, and a certain charismatic young escape artist entertaining the first-class passengers nightly. But privileged young women begin to go missing without explanation, and a series of brutal slayings shocks the entire ship. The strange and disturbing influence of the Moonlight Carnival pervades the decks as the murders grow more and more bizarre. It's up to Audrey Rose and Thomas to piece together the gruesome investigation before more passengers die before reaching their destination. But with clues to the next victim pointing to someone she loves, can Audrey Rose unravel the mystery before the killer's horrifying finale?
